Resource Library


This resource library is designed to assist customers with specific areas that can directly meet their career-oriented goals. As a Workforce and Community Development Team, we recognize the importance of customers having guidance and valuable career-related resources. We want to help those entering the workforce for the first time or reentering, changing careers, starting a business, brushing up on existing skills, or seeking new ones, reach their full potential.

Career sustainability is essential yet often challenging. This categorized list of resources will also help job-seekers address needs and barriers to employment to improve their overall well-being. We aim to help our Prince George’s County residents thrive in their career and entrepreneurial goal.

  • (CAPE-Youth) The Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth The Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, The Council of State Governments, the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability at Cornell University, the Interwork Institute at San Diego State University and the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals. The Center was created in 2019 by the Department of Labor. It seeks to improve employment outcomes for youth and young adults with disabilities by helping states build capacity in their youth service delivery and workforce systems. New materials and resources will be added to the site in the upcoming months.
  • Disability Employment Initiative Fact Sheet - The information on these pages is provided to ensure that businesses and job seekers with disabilities are aware of the services available through American Job Centers and other local and national employment resources. The links are not intended to be inclusive.
  • Disability Rights Maryland - Disability Rights Maryland (DRM), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is Maryland’s designated Protection & Advocacy agency (formerly known as “Maryland Disability Law Center”). DRM is federally mandated to advance the civil rights of people with disabilities. We provide free legal services to Marylanders of any age with all types of disabilities (developmental, intellectual, psychiatric, physical, sensory, learning, traumatic brain injury), who live in facilities, in the community or who are homeless.
  • Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) - EARN helps employers, human resources professionals, and diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) staff find the resources they need to recruit, hire, retain and advance people with disabilities. EARN's website, AskEARN.org, offers a variety of resources to assist employers, including state and federal government agencies, in making their workforces more inclusive and reflective of the citizens they serve and meeting their DEIA goals.
  • The LEAD Center The National Center on Leadership for the Employment and Economic Advancement of People with Disabilities (LEAD) is a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) policy development center. The LEAD Center delivers policy research and recommendations, technical assistance, and demonstration projects to promote inclusion and equity, and facilitate the adoption and integration of inclusive WIOA programs, policies, and practices.
  • Job Action Network (JAN) - JAN is the leading source of free, expert, and confidential guidance on job accommodations and disability employment issues. Serving customers across the United States and around the world for 40 years, JAN provides free one-on-one practical guidance and technical assistance on job accommodation solutions, Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related legislation, and self-employment and entrepreneurship options for people with disabilities.
  • Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) - The Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) offers programs and services that help people with disabilities go to work. It is composed of the public vocational rehabilitation (VR) program and the Disability Determination Services (DDS). It also provides services to Maryland businesses. DORS helps Maryland businesses recruit and retain qualified employees with disabilities. DORS matches qualified applicants with job openings and is a resource for disability and employment topics.
  • Maryland Governor’s Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Resources - The Governor’s Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a policy coordination office of the Governor that is focused on advocating and coordinating the adoption of public policies, regulations, and programs.
  • Maryland State Library For The Blind and Print Disabled - This library provides comprehensive library services to the eligible blind and print disabled residents of the State of Maryland. Their vision is to provide innovative and quality services to meet the needs and expectations of their patrons.
  • Maryland Transitions - Resources, information, and tools to help teens, families, schools, and communities to prepare teens with disabilities for future possibilities. Please review the Maryland Promise Transitions Resource Guide.
  • National Employment Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - Welcome to the NAD Employment Resource Center (NERC), dedicated to promoting improved employment of deaf and hard of hearing people. The purpose of the NERC is to provide employees and employers a single location with employment-related information, statistics and publications.
  • National Organization on Disability (NOD) - NOD increases employment opportunities for Americans with disabilities. Our programs and services enable companies to realize the competitive advantages of hiring people with disabilities.When the National Organization on Disability was founded in 1982, it was the first organization in the United States to represent every person with a disability, regardless of particular needs or circumstances. To have a disability is to belong to a large extended community — one out of every four Americans fits the description — that includes immense diversity, but also common threads of shared experience. Our mission has always been to break down the barriers that fence people off from the wider community.
  • Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management, Civil Rights Center (CRC) - CRC enforces several federal disability nondiscrimination laws, including Title II of the ADA as it applies to the workforce and labor-related practices of state and local governments and other public entities. In addition, the CRC enforces Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and laws that apply to recipients of financial assistance under Title I of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
  • Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) - ODEP promotes policies and coordinates with employers and all levels of government to increase workplace success for people with disabilities.
  • Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) - OFCCP shares enforcement authority for Title I of the ADA with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). OFCCP also enforces Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 503) and the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), which prohibits employment discrimination against certain categories of veterans by federal contractors.
  • PEAT The Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT) Our mission is to foster collaborations in the technology space that build inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities. Our vision is a future where new and emerging technologies are accessible to the workforce by design.
  • RespectAbility.org - RespectAbility is a diverse, disability-led nonprofit that works to create systemic change in how society views and values people with disabilities, and that advances policies and practices that empower people with disabilities to have a better future.   • FSC First - FSC First was founded in 1978 in Prince George’s County to serve small businesses through the implementation of a specialized financial program. Today, we offer more than 12 unique programs to an array of businesses, industries and professions seeking to develop within the county and locations within Maryland.   • 211 Maryland - The 2-1-1 database has information on nearly 5,000 agencies and programs across the state. Every hour of every day, people need essential human services. They are looking for help finding affordable housing, food, employment training, and utility payment assistance, services for their children or aging parents, and many other issues. Call by dialing 2-1-1 on your phone or explore the website and database.
  • BIPOC Mental Health Outreach Toolkit (English) - The BIPOC Mental Health Month campaign and toolkit were designed to provide culturally responsive mental health information to highlight three core pillars of culture, community, and connection and how integral they are to BIPOC communities. The toolkit includes factsheets, worksheets, shareable images, and more that can aid community discussion and guide individuals to helpful resources.   • Consumer Complaints - Follow the instructions on the appropriate form to file a consumer complaint with the Maryland Department of Labor.
  • Consumer Resources - Financial Regulation - The Maryland Department of Labor offers information on banking basics, budgeting, homeowner resources, identity protection, and consumer credit and debt.
  • Employ Prince George's - Employ Prince George's is an industry-leading workforce development service provider, administering over 14 workforce development programs supported by more than 20 funding sources.   • Heart to Hand - Heart to Hand is a 501 (c) (3), community-based public health organization located in Largo, Maryland. We provide support services to those living with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. Heart to Hand is the leading provider of free services to those living with sexually transmitted infections.

  • The Arc Prince George's County - The Arc Prince George’s County partners with leading businesses in the Washington DC Metropolitan to employ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide the education, training and skills necessary to help the people we support obtain and maintain successful employment.
  • An Employment Benefits Guide for the Worker in Transition - This guide briefly discusses and provides an extensive network of service providers who help dislocated workers with job search assistance, continuing healthcare benefits coverage, and employment services.

  • Employment and Training Administration (ETA) - ETA provides grants and other services that offer job search assistance, provide supportive employment services and job training and connect employers with skilled workers.
  • Information for Unemployment Insurance Application (Claimants) - The Unemployment Insurance (UI) program pays benefits to workers who have lost their job through no fault of their own and meet the program’s eligibility requirements. 
  • Maryland State Online Employment Center - Visit our Maryland State Online Employment Center and review job announcements currently open. Make sure you meet the necessary minimum qualifications prior to applying as different positions require different levels of education and experience. To quickly find the job openings in which you are most interested, narrow your search by using the filter options: Keyword, Location, Department, Recruitment Type, College degree requirement, and/or Job Category.
  • Melwood - We provide employment, job training, life skill improvement, supportive and recreational services to more than 2,000 people with disabilities each year. We operate 37 federal contracts, delivering high-quality total facility management, custodial, ground-keeping, and recycling services at 43 sites in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.
  • Unemployment Insurance in Maryland - A Guide to Reemployment - This guide provides important information about the unemployment insurance (UI) program in Maryland. The UI program provides temporary income to individuals who are unemployed through no fault of their own, who are able and available to work, and who are actively seeking work.   • Ayuda en español - The Office of Adult Education and Reading Services provides resources to support adult instructional services and General Educational Development essays for individuals over 16 years of age who are not enrolled in school. The programs are offered in all Maryland jurisdictions and offer English classes for students and adults who are interested in improving basic skills in reading, writing, and math, or who want to obtain a high school diploma through the GED exams or the National External Diploma Program (NEDP for its centuries in English). Those who complete both the GED and NEDP programs earn the Maryland High School Diploma.
  • CASA (Central American Solidarity Association of Maryland) - We are a group of passionate, community-conscious people working to organize, advocate for, and expand opportunities for Latino and immigrant people in the state of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. We do this by providing employment placement; workforce development and training; health education; citizenship and legal services; and financial, language, and literacy training to Latino and immigrant communities throughout the state.
  • The Back to School Toolkit 2023 (Spanish) - The Back to School campaign and resources were developed to help increase understanding of how online activity affects the mental health of children and teens. The factsheets, shareable images, and other materials in the toolkit can be used to help manage the challenges of virtual spaces and empower youth to make informed decisions for their mental health and well-being.

  • Migration Policy Institute (MPI) - The nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute seeks to improve immigration and integration policies through authoritative research and analysis, opportunities for learning and dialogue, and the development of new ideas to address complex policy questions. MPI maintains a special commitment to work on immigration and integration policies in North America and Europe, where its two offices are located, but it also remains active around the world, and takes a global and comparative approach to migration issues when possible. The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) recently published an issue brief, entitled "Leveraging Data to Ensure Equitable and Effective Adult Skills Programming for Immigrants," which presents a profile of immigrant and U.S.-born adults, based on analysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. It looks at characteristics such as age, parental status, race and ethnicity, educational attainment, English proficiency, and employment and income. The analysis identifies disparities between immigrant and U.S.-born adults in income, levels of formal education, and employment type.   • Hispanic Heritage Foundation - The Hispanic Heritage Foundation identifies, inspires, prepares, and connects Latino Leaders in the community, classroom, and workforce.
  • iHispano - The leading career & recruiting site agency for Hispanic and bilingual professionals and job seekers.
  • Immigrant Proud (PGCMLS) - The Immigrant Proud resource page for the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) assists patrons in preparing and obtaining U.S. citizenship. Our available online resources help patrons further develop your language skills and prepare for citizenship exams.  The Immigrant Proud resource page provides access to PGCMLS programs and services like our conversation clubs and passport services, along with direct connection to local resources that benefit the immigrant community. 
  • Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) - The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) equips Latinos and other underserved communities with the skills and financial tools to create a better future for their families and communities. Participants in our programs learn how to build their long-term financial security by buying and staying in their homes, taking control of decisions affecting their apartment buildings, and starting or expanding their small businesses. The entire DC-MD-VA region and Puerto Rico is stronger when all families have the power to achieve financial independence and join with their neighbors to improve their communities.   • Latino Economic Development Center InBusiness Program - The InBusiness program by LEDC empowers local entrepreneurs with the tools to realize the full business potential of their ideas. We do this by equipping them with the practical business advice and accessible capital needed in launching a startup Venture or expanding an already successful business operation.

  • Mango Languages - Learn a new language from home or on-the-go with Mango! Mango's award-winning language courses combine quality content with intelligent technology to deliver practical phrases from real situations in a way that makes you want to start the conversation. 
  • Maryland Department of Labor: ESL/ESOL - The Adult Education and Literacy Services Division provides assistance to Maryland Department of Labor funded adult education programs to offer English language instruction for adults. Instructors funded through the Maryland Department of Labor are trained to help learners develop the skills necessary to advance toward personal goals that may create a pathway to vocational or educational attainment.
  • Maryland English Institute - The mission of Maryland English Institute (MEI) is to provide English language instruction and assessment at the postsecondary level for speakers of other languages who wish to learn English for academic, professional, or personal reasons. MEI offers rigorous courses of study while providing a positive and supportive learning community and promoting cross-cultural understanding.
  • Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce - Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is to promote the establishment, growth, prosperity and retention of Hispanic businesses, and those entities, and persons that support them in the State of Maryland. MDHCC exists to serve the Hispanic business community by promoting business opportunities, workforce development, providing resources, and making connections through awareness and mentorship.
  • PGCC Adult Education ESL - Search and sign up for classes through the Prince George's Community College if you want to improve your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

  • Skilled Immigrant Task Force - The Maryland Skilled Immigrants Task Force is a consortium of stakeholders that seek to leverage skills that foreign-trained professionals bring to the United States in order to meet local job market demand. Task Force membership consists of representatives from the Maryland Department of Human Services, the Maryland Department of Labor, community colleges, refugee resettlement agencies, American Job Centers, the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, and other immigrant-serving organizations.
  • Transparent Language - An easy-to-use interface that integrates real-life language use by native speakers.  With over 100 languages to choose from, every language learner will find something to interest them.
  • Voxy EnGen - Voxy EnGen is a virtual English language instruction platform for immigrants, refugees, and workers with limited English proficiency (LEP) who deserve self-sufficiency, economic mobility, civic participation, and a better quality of life.
  • The Butterfly Project - The Butterfly Project is a dedicated workforce development project at the Fairmount Heights Branch Library specifically for young Black and brown trans women, who are among the most at-risk people in our community. Inspired by the life and work of Karen Holmes, head of the Prince George’s Trans Coalition, the program seeks to ready young women for the job market and connect them with vital, affirming services. No matter your living, earning, or job skills situation, The Butterfly Project fosters a respectful, non-judgmental space to help young women blossom at their own pace in a safe environment.   • Heart to Hand - Heart to Hand is a 501 (c) (3), community-based public health organization located in Largo, Maryland.   • Human Rights Campaign - works to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
  • Lambda Legal - is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.
  • LGBTQ+ Veterans - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) welcomes all Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivor beneficiaries, including diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. “LGBTQ+” refers to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer identities. The “+” sign captures identities beyond LGBTQ, including but not limited to questioning, pansexual, asexual, agender, gender diverse, nonbinary, gender-neutral, and other identities. LGBTQ+ Veterans have faced stigma and discrimination, which can affect health. As a healthcare institution, we need to make sure that LGBTQ+ Veterans know that they are welcome at Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
  • myGwork - myGwork is the business community for LGBT+ professionals, students, inclusive employers and anyone who believes in workplace equality. We want to empower the LGBT+ community by offering our individual members a safe space where they can connect with inclusive employers, find jobs, mentors, professional events and news.
  • National LGBT Chamber of Commerce - The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce’s (NGLCC) goal is to create an organization that could support LGBT business owners and showcase the diversity of talent in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities.
