Library Offers Resources for Learning from Home

Largo, Maryland – As students, families, and educators settle into the new academic year, the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) is honored to support learning from home with a wide array of online educational resources for students in grades K-12. This September, the Library launches the new Resources for Learning from Home portal at pgcmls.info/school. The portal complements the Library’s Homework Support Suite to enhance the virtual learning experience for local students.

All Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) students have access to the Library’s online resources with their LINK card number. When accessing the online library and prompted for a library card number, students should use their 9-digit LINK card number with PGCPS in front (example:  PGCPS100100100). No library card sign-up is required. Students’ pin numbers are the last four digits of their LINK card number. Adults may register for a free virtual library card at pgcmls.info.

Library staff curate featured online resources by age level for elementary, middle school, high school, and post-secondary students. Free access is available to live tutoring, grade and subject-specific activities, and more with resources like Brainfuse HelpNow, PebbleGo, and EBSCO’s LearningExpress Library.

  • Brainfuse HelpNow offers live tutoring in English and Spanish between 2-11:55 pm ET.
  • PebbleGo offers students in grades K-3 reading and research tools such as leveled text, consistent navigation, fun educational games, and spoken-word audio that models correct pronunciation and fluency.
  • EBSCO’s LearningExpress Library provides skill-building, college admission essay, and standardized test resources, including practice PSAT/NMSQT®, ACT®, SAT®, AP®, and ASVAB tests.

Reference and research resources include ABC-CLIO, Gale in Context: Biography, Literacy Reference Center, and Science Reference Center. 

  • ABC-CLIO provides access to various historical and cultural databases, including The African American Experience, American History, The American Indian Experience, Issues: Controversy and Society, The Latino American Experience, and more.
  • Gale in Context: Biography includes detailed biographies with links to related full-text articles from books, interviews, magazines, and newspapers.
  • Literacy Reference Center provides information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes.
  • Science Reference Center offers full text for hundreds of science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, and other sources. Students can explore topics like biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, health and medicine, history of science, life science, physics, wildlife, and more. 

The Library’s 85+ online resources are searchable by category and featured resources are include in the Library’s Support Suite: Creative, Digital, Discovery, Homework Support, and News.
